Daniel J. Fernandes, PhD, DSc

Dr. Fernandes is a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. His role includes enhancing translational research at Hollings by fostering collaboration among basic and clinical science researchers, identifying translational research projects that show potential for funding or industry partnerships, and working with senior leaders to target projects that can be translated into the clinic.
Dr. Fernandes' research has been continuously funded by the NCI for 30 years. His research career has focused on the mechanisms of action and resistance of anticancer drugs, and the development of new anticancer agents. These studies led to the development of two FDA approved drugs, Fludarabine and Ethyol.
