Melanie B. Thomas, MD

Dr. Thomas, an Associate Professor of Medicine, is a medical oncologist and noted liver cancer researcher. She holds the Grace E. DeWolff Endowed Chair as part of the SmartState Center of Economic Excellence in Gastrointestinal Malignancies at MUSC. Dr. Thomas is charged with overseeing the entire Hollings Cancer Center clinical research enterprise, including the Protocol Review Committee, the Data & Safety Monitoring Committee, and all clinical trials efforts. She sets policy and direction and strengthens the Cancer Center's clinical research efforts across disciplines (e.g., medicine, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, urology, gynecology oncology, pediatric oncology) with an emphasis on increasing accrual to trials, developing novel investigator-initiated trials, and promoting leadership within the NCI’s National Clinical Trials Network.
