Welcome and thank you for visiting the Hollings Cancer Center's website. I hope you will take the time to learn more about the many treatment, research and prevention activities underway.

My fellow South Carolinians and I have long known that we live in one of the country's best places.  We enjoy an incredible quality of life and have many fine healthcare facilities to care for us if become ill.

Yet when cancer afflicts our citizens, they often  travel to North Carolina or Alabama to receive care at cancer centers recognized by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). An NCI-designated cancer center is one that the country's leading scientists acknowledge for scientific excellence and for bringing diverse research approaches to the problem of cancer.  

South Carolinians deserve to have a world-class cancer center within our borders that will not only perform cutting-edge research and works aggressively to prevent cancer from occurring through early detection and education but also provide superior patient care. That is why I have lent my name and my support to establishing such a center in South Carolina.

Cancer takes a terrible toll on the lives of too many families. I am proud to be a part of such a committed team at the Medical University of South Carolina, dedicated to addressing this problem and improving the quality of life of countless South Carolinians.
