Research Interest:
Dr. Kraft's research focuses on three major areas. He is interested in the combination of chemotherapeutics drugs with pro-apoptotic agents. For example, he studies TRAIL and the ability of Velcade to enhance TRAIL killing. In the laboratory, he focuses this research effort on prostate cancer and kidney cancer. Another area of his interest is the Pim Protein Kinase. This enzyme is known to be an enhancer of transformation by the Myc protein. Dr. Kraft studies the molecular activity of Pim and its role both in prostate cancer and leukemia. His third project area is focused on examining the control of phosphorylation of the AML1 transcription factor. AML1 is a transcription factor that is highly trans-located in human leukemia. It is the most common transcription factor involved in human myeloid leukemia and pediatric b-cell leukemia. Phosphorylation degradation of this protein are potential targets for anti-cancer development.
