Research Interest:
Homeobox genes involved in the control of embryonic development. We use the mouse as a model system and gene targeting and knockout mice to study these genes. We have shown the Evxl homeobox gene to be essential for the development of all embryonic and extraembryonic tissues after implantation in the uterus. More subtle mutations in the Evxl gene are being engineered to study this gene's later roles in gastrulation and limb bud development. Through these studies we hope to further elucidate the hierarchy of molecular-genetic interactions that control development.
