For good cause, bid for sought-after bachelor -- or Bryce So you're looking for a date with a celebrity. Well, the Boating Bachelor Auction is your chance to bid on and possibly win one Friday. The Boating Bachelor will present the most eligible media guys in the Lowcountry to benefit the Dragon Boat Charleston Paddlers. "Dragon Boat Charleston Paddlers are cancer survivors who find personal strength and belonging in paddling their 48-foot boat in local waters," says Sterling Hannah, coordinator of Dragon Boat and program co-coordinator at MUSC's Hollings Cancer Center. Dragon Boat is associated with Hollings Cancer Center. Among the pack of leading men to be bid on (and who some say is the hottest of them all) is The Post and Courier's own Bryce Donovan, whose humor column, "It Beats Working," appears every Thursday in the Preview section. According to Donovan, there are problems inherent in being a sizzling, sought-after bachelor. "I get approached by beautiful women all the time. Only problem is, the first thing they usually say is, 'That's him, officer.' " WEZL morning talk show hosts TJ and Gary will auction off the bachelors, who are, in addition to Donovan and Phil Bowman of The Post and Courier, Brent McKay, Alice 100.5; Trey Cooler, WEZL; Brad Adams, Q104.5; Brad Franko, Channel 2 Sports; Rory Dat Boi, Power 94.3; Patrick Sharbaugh, The City Paper; Mark "Fish" Fisher, general manager, City Bar; and Gray Hall, Channel 2 News. The Charleston Boat Show and Clear Channel Radio are hosting the event. Just in case the guys up for auction don't seem like an adequate reason to bid a month's pay, keep in mind that each comes with what amounts to a dowry -- a date package. "Each of the packages has a boating or water theme," Hannah says. Among the water-themed date packages are a cruise on a Sea-Ray Yacht, a dinner cruise on the Spirit of Carolina and a boat ride on a Fountain Power Boat captained by CEO Reggie Fountain. To bid on your favorite personality, just bring your money and a party attitude to the Sportz Cafe on Montague Avenue in North Charleston to bid on Donovan and the other media personalities. The Boating Bachelor will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $5. Attendees with Charleston Boat Show tickets will get in for $2. Boat show tickets are on sale now at the North Charles-ton Coliseum box office and will be available on-site during the event next weekend at the Charleston Area Convention Center.
