Endowed Chairs hold tremendous prestige in the medical community. To hold an endowed chair means one has achieved recognized excellence in his or her work as a clinician/researcher. Endowed chairs are the premier recruiting tool used to secure senior level leaders with national reputations. It is highly competitive to recruit these clinicians/researchers, and the deciding factor is often an endowed chair. Endowed chairs are a minimum of $1 million to endow and can be named and designated for a particular cancer area. Hollings Cancer Center is striving to raise endowed chairs in the following ten areas: Nutrition and Cancer, Phase I Clinical Trials, Lung Cancer, GI Cancer, Prostate/Urological Cancer, Breast Cancer, Head and Neck Cancer, Blood Cancers, Melanoma/Skin Cancer, and New Drug Development. |
