Fifth Annual Gourmet & Grapes Culinary Extravaganza Benefiting Hollings Cancer Center to Feature or Award Winning Chef Justin Bogle of GILT in New York City

 Food & Wine Celebration to be held February 8th- 10th, 2013 at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort

October 11, 2012, Charleston, SC – The Fifth Annual Gourmet & Grapes Culinary Extravaganza benefiting the Hollings Cancer Center at the Medical University of South Carolina promises to be the best one yet. Justin Bogle, Executive Chef at GILT and The Palace Gate in New York City, will headline the weekend event scheduled for Feb. 8th- 10th at the Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

The event, a weekend-long culinary celebration, is the only fundraiser in the Lowcountry that brings together renowned chefs and winemakers to raise money for cancer research.

Bogle, named “Rising Star Chef” in 2010 by Restaurant Hospitality, and one of New York City’s “30 Under 30” by Zagat in 2011, is the youngest chef in NYC to receive two stars from Michelin Guide, which he has received three years running. Bogle and his team will oversee Friday night’s Epicurean Affair, an elegant multicourse dinner with wine pairings in the breathtaking Ocean Room at the Sanctuary.

“I feel honored and privileged to be a part of Gourmet & Grapes to raise funds to support cancer research and patient programs at the Hollings Cancer Center,” Chef Bogle said.  “I have lost several loved ones due to this horrible disease. Most recently, my aunt survived stage IV lung cancer, so it means a great deal to me to be able to contribute to the cause in any way possible."

A hallmark of Gourmet & Grapes is the gourmet multicourse Culinary Luncheon held Saturday. This year, Scott Crawford, Executive Chef of The Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary, NC, will headline the luncheon and accompanying food and wine demonstration. Crawford, formerly Executive Chef of the Woodlands Resort & Inn in Summerville, SC and recipient of numerous awards, will also bring his talents to Gourmet & Grapes’ Saturday night Wine Odyssey Gala.

Wine Odyssey Gala & Farewell Brunch

Gourmet & Grapes peaks Saturday night with the lively Wine Odyssey Gala under elegant tents on the The Sanctuary’s oceanfront Grand Lawn. The Gala brings the most talented chefs from the Southeastern U.S. together with some of the world’s leading winemakers. The Gala features silent and live auctions, live music, dancing, and a champagne and chocolate afterglow.

The elegant and fun weekend concludes Sunday with the Farewell Brunch and salute to the chefs on the Grand Lawn featuring Kiawah Island Golf Resort’s talented chefs.

Since its inception in 2009, Gourmet & Grapes has raised close to $500,000 dollars for cancer research programs at Hollings Cancer Center. With stagnant federal funding, this contribution has proved invaluable in the cancer research conducted in South Carolina.
