Camp Bluebird offers a unique weekend experience for adult cancer survivors. Camp is open to any person older than 18 who has had a cancer diagnosis, regardless of who provides their health care. It is the first and only program of its kind in South Carolina. Amidst the beauties of nature of Camp Saint Christopher on Seabrook Island, campers are provided a creative, educational atmosphere of support in which they can learn to develop greater independence and to deal with their special needs. At Camp Bluebird, campers enjoy time away for listening and learning and for caring and sharing. Campers gain a better understanding of their non-medical needs and learn coping strategies from other people who have made lifestyle adjustments through living with cancer. Camp Bluebird offers creative outlets through recreational activities, music, singing, dancing, games, arts and crafts. Campers and volunteers alike receive a full dose of fellowship, fun and more.
All meals, snacks and lodging are provided. Two people share a hotel-style room with a private bath. Handicapped facilities are available. There is a very modest cost to attend the camp, but scholarships are available. Camp Bluebird can accept only a limited number of campers, so if you are interested, apply early. Hollings Cancer Center is proud to sponsor this not-for-profit program to enrich the lives of cancer survivors. The Fall 2007 camp will be held November 2-4. Registration is now available online.
