Psychological Support Services

Our mission in the Psychosocial and Behavioral Oncology program at Hollings Cancer Center is to help you and your family members cope with the distress that can accompany cancer and its treatment. Many people find that a cancer diagnosis requires a great deal of emotional and psychological energy to adapt successfully. With sensitivity and understanding, we can provide the support services needed to adjust to cancer and treatment and to live life with improved quality and purpose. 

Supportive handsServices provided by the psychosocial and behavioral oncology program include:
• Individual, couples and family counseling 
• Behavioral techniques to manage anxiety
• Help with coping with fatigue, insomnia, pain and distress
• Smoking cessation
• Improving health habits
• Group support
• Referrals to community resources
 

About Confidentiality
Communication between you and your therapist is considered confidential. We work closely with your health care team and prefer that your physician have a general understanding of your concerns and adjustment. However, information is shared with your health care providers only with your permission, and we recognize that there may be times when you prefer to keep specific issues between you and your therapist.
