In 2005, Hollings Cancer Center received funding from the Wachovia Foundation to fund a five-year breast cancer initiative to identify and provide clinical services for women at high risk for breast cancer. Funds are utilized to support a nurse practitioner, educational materials, a genetic counselor and other educational initiatives important to the success of the program. The aims of this service are to: • Provide education to women about risk factors, risk reduction, breast self-examination and surveillance procedures in clinic and outreach interventions • Provide genetic counseling and screening for women at high risk • Devise and evaluate protocols for managing women at high risk • Identify and evaluate women at high risk for developing breast cancer • Provide emotional support to women and their family members who are at high risk • Facilitate participation in research related to prevention, early diagnosis and treatment See more information about the high risks for breast cancer *
