Description:
The Tissue Biorepository Shared Resource facility is a combined effort of HCC and the MUSC Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. The facility banks tissues from high-mortality cancers in South Carolina, providing a linked tissue database and innovative technologies for the molecular analysis of cancer for HCC scientists and optimizing the use of human tissues for biomedical research at MUSC.
The facility properly identifies, retrieves and processes human tissues for specific research protocol requirements while ensuring and demonstrating specimen quality control at each step, assuring uninterrupted diagnostic procedures and patient care. Appropriate levels of patient informed consent guarantee patient confidentiality and protect patients' rights.
Services:
Tissue Biorepository services for both prospective and archived materials.
Consultation with designated pathologists and researchers for both protocol development and tissue evaluation.
Technical support and expertise for routine histological and immunohistochemical analyses of research specimens.
Access to samples which support innovative technologies for the molecular analysis of cancer, including prepared DNA and/or RNA, laser capture microdissected specimens, and focused development of normal and tumor cell lines.
